EXPERIENCE DETAILS

Highlights

  • A weekend of adventure and exploration in Utah’s first national park, Zion
  • Enjoy a private sunset Jeep tour of the “Outback” section of the park, going off-road to see all the sights
  • An afternoon canyoneering tour with rappelling and hiking through the steep canyon walls
  • A guided walk through the Narrows, getting your feet wet in the Virgin River while surrounded by 1,000 feet high cliff walls
  • Stay at the Desert Pearl Inn, one of the top-rated Zion lodging choices set amongst the area’s natural beauty
With narrow slot canyons that blend into massive sandstone cliffs, it’s not hard to see why Zion was named the first National Park in Utah. Located on the edge of the Colorado Plateau, its layers were formed hundreds of millions of years ago — layers that are still being excavated and eroded by the Virgin River today.

Over a long adventure-filled weekend, enjoy and explore all that the park has to offer with a variety of activities to ensure you make the most of this unique experience. Start your trip on two wheels and tear up the local trails on your guided mountain bike tour. That evening you’ll trade in your bike for a jeep. Hit the back roads by way of the “Outback” section of Zion on a three-hour private Jeep tour at sunset. Learn about the park’s human history before taking a guided walk through the Narrows, where you’ll wade through the waters of the Virgin River surrounded by 1,000 foot high canyon walls. On your final day, hike and rappel through the same canyons American Indians and pioneers traversed with an afternoon canyoneering adventure.

Stay at one of the top-rated Zion lodging choices — the Desert Pearl Inn — where your private balcony will look out onto towering red rock formations along the tree-lined river. Spacious rooms include lounge areas with natural materials and walls of windows to bring the outdoors in during your stay. Each meal will be enjoyed at a local bistro or cafe, ensuring you’re never far from the area’s natural beauty.

The original of the so-called Big Five National Parks, Zion is a must-visit destination, and this weekend is the best way to enjoy its many treasures.

FAQ

What makes The Narrows hike so unique?
The Narrows hike always tops out as one of the best hikes in the United States.  The hike takes place in the bottom of a slot canyon which has been created by river erosion spanning over millions of years.  Rock walls on both sides extending up to 1,500 feet tall, passageways as narrow as 20 feet wide, and the Virgin River flowing throughout, make for a very picturesque landscape.  While the entire hike is 17 miles, we will only be doing a portion of that anywhere from 2-6 miles.

What should I bring on The Narrows hike?
Most of The Narrows hike will involve crossing the Virgin River, so we recommend bringing sturdy hiking shoes that can get wet, a swimsuit/clothes that dry quickly, a light layer for shaded areas, a bottle of water, and a ziploc bag to keep certain items dry.  In August, the water and air temperature are typically warm enough to go without full dry suits, but in the event it is cooler that day or you’d prefer to go with rental gear, a full dry suit, canyon waterproof shoes, neoprene socks, and a hiking pole will be reserved for each member.

I already own a National Parks Pass.  Should I bring it with me?
Yes, please remember to pack your National Parks Pass if you own one.  Should you forget to bring it or do not own one, admission to the park is included in the cost of the trip.

I've never mountain biked before.  Will I be able to keep up with the tour?
Yes! The tour is a great introduction to mountain biking and tailored to the group’s skill level.  Beginners will be able to ride on wide dirt roads generally smooth and flowing.  For those who are more experienced, there are adjacent trails which offer a little more of a challenge.
