Home to a world-class ski resort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a buzzing art and music scene all set in the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Taos, New Mexico will draw you in with its small town charm and big cultural personality.

Get off the beaten path immediately after arrival with a 2.4 mile hike in the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. Here the Rio Grande River has carved steep canyons through layers of volcanic rock, with evidence of human activity dating back to prehistoric times. To get there, you’ll drive on the famous U.S. Route 64 over the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, the fifth highest bridge in the United States.

Taos is known as a mecca for artists and visionaries, and you’ll immerse yourself in fine art with a curated tour at the Milicent Rogers museum, home to thousands of years of Southwestern art and culture. Mingle with the artists of today with stops at a local bee farm, pottery workshop and jeweler.

You’ll also enjoy a private tour of Taos Pueblo, the only living Native American community designated both a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and a National Historic Landmark. Walk through neighborhoods of multi-story adobe buildings that have been continuously inhabited for over a thousand years, with lunch at a local’s home where you’ll learn how to bake bread in a traditional horno oven.

Stay in the heart of Taos at the El Monte Sagrado, with well-appointed rooms complete with private balconies featuring garden views. Take the opportunity to explore the nearby town plaza, and find a chile ristra to bring home and hang on your porch as a bright reminder of your stay in New Mexico’s most vibrant town.
