EXPERIENCE DETAILS

Highlights

  • A four-day guided river-raft tour of Cataract Canyon, home to thrilling rapids and stunning scenery
  • Comfortable, riverside camps set up each evening including full porterage as well as chef-prepared meals
  • Explore Native American ruins and see majestic vistas on short hikes near the water
  • Enjoy the thrill of some of the world’s best rapids including Satan’s Gut, Little Niagra Falls, and more
  • Retrace your journey with a private flight through Lake Powell, Canyonlands National Park, Meander Canyon, and the Colorado River before returning to Moab
South of Moab, at the meeting of the Green and Colorado Rivers known as “The Confluence,” Cataract Canyon begins. This 100-mile long chasm through the heart of Canyonlands National Park provides action-packed rapids alongside calm and relaxing stretches of river, all winding through stunning geologic formations.

Soak it all in from the water on a four-day rafting tour down the canyon, where your guided J rig will easily tackle the “big drops” including Satan's Gut and Little Niagara Falls — famed as some of the world's best rapids — while also floating you past spectacular scenery with plenty of time for photos. Each night, sleep under the stars in this nationally-recognized Dark Sky Park in a comfortable riverside camp complete with full porterage and set-up.

Led by the experts at MT Sobek, you’ll head out on your first day after a safety briefing and time to adjust to the warm waters of the Colorado River. There’s plenty to see right off the bat, with a stop to learn about the local flora and fauna of the area as well as to explore nearby Native American ruins.

Enjoy beach games like bocce ball and horseshoes as the sun drops below the canyon walls, and then early to bed, not too early to rise. Day two starts at a leisurely pace, with brunch at camp followed by a short hike to take in the majestic vistas. Go swimming at the Confluence, as is tradition, before starting the journey into Cataract Canyon. Your guides may have a few surprises up their sleeves that evening, but it’s nothing compared to the adventure that awaits.

After a sunrise hike on day three, pick up the pace with more than 15 thrilling rapids over 29 miles through the canyon. You’ll be ready to celebrate when you reach the sandy beach of camp that afternoon, with appetizers, drinks and a special feast prepared for your last night under the stars.

Your final day consists of a half-day of rafting through one of the most spectacular stretches of canyon, with a final lunch on the river as you see the walls rise higher near Lake Powell. After take-out, you’ll retrace your journey with a private flight through Lake Powell, Canyonlands National Park, Meander Canyon, the Colorado River and finally back to the town of Moab. While your plane ride home later that evening may not be as exhilarating, after four days of non-stop adventure, you’re sure to appreciate its comfort.
