EXPERIENCE OVERVIEW

This amazing trip to India includes time in Mumbai, Udaipur, Jaipur, Ranthambore, Agra, and Delhi, tours of some of India’s most iconic sites, and incredible accommodations and meals at each destination along the way. It’s the perfect adventurous getaway for anyone interested in exploring the sights, sounds, food, and culture of this vibrant country.

Your vacation begins in Mumbai, where you’ll be met at the airport and escorted to the luxurious Taj Mahal Palace hotel, overlooking the historic Gateway of India. Here you’ll enjoy deluxe accommodations with views of the city or the sea, plush bedding, and access to the hotel’s many amenities—nine onsite restaurants and bars, large outdoor pool, spa services, and more.

During your stay in Mumbai, you’ll enjoy several exciting activities that we’ve arranged to make your vacation extra special. For the first, you’ll travel by speedboat to Elephanta Island, famous for its ancient cave shrines and temples, where you’ll spend the morning with your guide exploring the rock-cut architecture and sculptural art of this UNESCO World Heritage site.

You’ll then take a guided, afternoon tour of Mumbai, seeing the sights and learning more about the city’s most iconic landmarks—from the Royal Mumbai Yacht Club and the National Gallery of Modern Art to the Police Headquarters and the Kala Ghode art district. Following the immersive two-hour walk, you’ll relax with a dinner of traditional north Indian cuisine at the elegant and award-winning Khyber restaurant.

The next day, before heading to your next destination, you’ll have the opportunity to see the city in a different light with a Mumbai by Dawn tour, walking the streets and exploring the nearby neighborhoods just as the city wakes up and comes to life. On this early morning stroll, you’ll see milkmen making deliveries, fruit and vegetable sellers setting up their stalls for the day, and outdoor markets opening, getting ready for customers. It’s a great way to get a feel for and experience real day-to-day life in Mumbai.

From Mumbai, you’ll fly to Udaipur, the City of Lakes, where you’ll check in at the stunning Taj Lake Palace hotel, a former royal family vacation retreat, floating in the middle of Lake Pichola. Here, you’ll appreciate grand accommodations, world-class service, and picture-perfect views. You’ll also be taken on a guided tour of Udaipur’s City Palace, with its impressive collection of art and artifacts, the gorgeous Durbar Hall, and the Crystal Gallery—the largest privately-owned collection of crystal objets d’art in the world.

Your stay in Udaipur also includes a lunch of Mewar-style dishes at the lovely Royal Repast restaurant, a fun, 90-minute hands-on workshop where you’ll learn the art of Mughal miniature painting, a fabulous dinner (with views) at Mewar Terrace, and time to get out and enjoy the city on your own.

After Udaipur, you’ll travel to beautiful Jaipur for a stay at the five-star Taj Rambagh Palace hotel, the luxurious—and lovingly restored—former residence of an 18th century Maharaja and his queen. Nicknamed the Pink City because of the pink-hued shades of its many historic stone buildings, Jaipur is a place where modern life meets majestic history, with beautiful palaces, colorful bazaars, and a popular city center that’s perfect for sightseeing.

While in Jaipur, we’ve arranged for you to visit the Gyan Museum, a beautifully designed contemporary space showcasing a collection of over 2,500 pieces of Indian artifacts, including jewelry, gemstones, textiles, hookahs, and more. You’ll also spend a full morning on a guided tour of the 16th century Amber Fort and the Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing, with a photo-stop at the beautiful Hawa Mahal. And in the evening, you’ll enjoy a private, hands-on cooking lesson with a local Indian family, followed by a sit-down dinner of the food you’ve prepared.

Before leaving Jaipur, you’ll also explore the famed Jantar Mantar—a unique 17 century observatory—take a specially curated tour of the royal rooms and armory of the City Palace, lunch at the opulent 1135 AD restaurant, and have time to relax at the hotel or get out and see more of the city at your own pace.

Your next destination is the protected forest of Ranthambore, a three-hour drive from Jaipur. Along the way, you’ll stop for photos at Abhaneri, one of the largest stepwells in the world, before arriving and checking in at the luxurious SUJÁN Sher Bagh, a luxurious, family-run tented safari camp, set within a lush landscape just outside of Ranthambore National Park. Here, you’ll enjoy deluxe accommodations in an elegant tented suite, complete with custom-made furnishings, a spa-like bathroom, private verandah, complimentary WiFi, and access to the camp’s library, swimming pool, spa, and other upscale amenities.

During your stay, you’ll go on multiple game drives within the park, in search of the elusive Royal Bengal tiger and other local wildlife, enjoy delicious meals served in the camp’s sophisticated dining tent or on an outside terrace, and have time each evening to relax with cocktails or sit by crackling campfires under starry skies. This throwback to the days of elegant safaris combined with love of conservation and impeccable service will make this part of your journey truly unforgettable.

From the forests of Ranthambore, you’ll travel to Agra—first by train and then by car—where you’ll see some of the most magnificent monuments built by the Mughal Empire, including the Agra Fort and the Taj Mahal. For your overnight stay, you’ll have luxurious accommodations at the romantic Oberoi Amarvilas resort—with a spacious guest room, marble bath, views of the Taj Mahal, butler service, and more—take guided tours of nearby landmarks, and have time to relax and enjoy the restaurants, gardens, or spa at the hotel.

Your first planned excursion in Agra is a stop at the historical “red fort” on your drive in, followed by an afternoon tour of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity Home and a stunning sunset visit to the majestic Taj Mahal. The next day, you’ll wake early to tour the Taj at sunrise before heading to Delhi and the last leg of this amazing trip.

Delhi is a city that has been built and rebuilt many times over the centuries. Today, it’s home to a variety of elements and architecture from different historical eras, as well as the modern conveniences you’d expect in a capital city.

In Delhi, you’ll enjoy two nights at the lovely and luxurious Oberoi Delhi hotel, with beautiful deluxe guestrooms, spa-like bathrooms, and plenty of upscale amenities to make you feel at home. Upon arrival, you’ll have time to settle in before going on a late afternoon tour of the famed Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India. Following the tour, you’ll walk around the neighborhood market with your guide and then head over to the Haveli Dharampura—a stunning 200-year-old renovated mansion and UNESCO Culture and Heritage site—for a fabulous dinner of Old Delhi delicacies and rich Mughlai cuisine.

On the last day of your trip, you’ll see more of Delhi’s impressive sights with a morning visit to Qutub Minar, the world’s tallest brick minaret, built in phases between the 12th and 15th centuries. You’ll also drive past the President’s Palace and iconic India Gate, before enjoying a delicious lunch of Southeast Asian cuisine at The Spice Route—a gorgeous spot named one of the Top Ten Restaurants in India by Condé Nast Traveler.

In the afternoon, you’ll take a guided tour of the historic 16 century Humayun’s Tomb, the first Persian-style garden tomb built in India. And then spend the rest of the day—and evening—resting, exploring, and dining on your own to wrap up the quick stay in Delhi and your unforgettable journey through India.
