The highest mountain in Grand Teton National Park, and a classic summit for American mountaineering, is The Grand Teton. There is wide disagreement about who was the first person to climb The Grand Teton. While you may not be the first, you can count yourself among those who have with this five-day climbing excursion to the top of one of our country’s most iconic peaks.

Your first step is meeting your private MT Sobek guide, whose local knowledge and expertise will lead the way through your entire trip. After a fun first day of exploring, get a good nights rest in your cottage at the Jackson Lake Lodge. The following day you’ll prepare for the climb with a full day of instruction. With plenty of time to practice, you’ll learn skills like bouldering, multi-pitch climbing techniques, rappelling, knots, rope management, and belaying. Have a hearty dinner that night; the climb begins in the morning.

Day one of the climb is a seven mile hike to the Lower Saddle where your guide will set up camp. You’ll have time to explore the area and then will want to be in bed early to prepare for the next day’s summit attempt. Starting before sunrise, your guide will decide the best route to the top. Weather permitting, you will see fantastic views of Teton Range, Grand Teton National Park and the Jackson Hole Valley.

The way down is always easier, especially knowing you have a soft bed at Hotel Terra in Jackson Hole waiting for you. Celebrate that evening with a dinner in Teton Village while reminiscing on the day’s ascent. While it wasn’t easy, it will forever be memorable.
