Traversing 109 miles through the Black Hills of South Dakota, the Mickelson Trail is known as one of the best biking routes in the Western United States. Over four days, pedal your way past charming towns, national landmarks and more on a guided cycling tour of this former railroad route.

Upon arrival in Rapid City, meet your MT Sobek guide and head for the trailhead. Day one takes you 25 miles starting in Rochford to the gold boom town of Deadwood, where outlaws like Wild Bill Hickok, Wyatt Earp and Calamity Jane once rode the streets. Enjoy a hearty steak dinner and the town’s historical character before a good’s night rest.

Head the opposite direction on day two, putting in 23 miles between Rochford and Hill City. After lunch at a nearby winery, take a short hike for spectacular views of Mount Rushmore and learn about the monument’s history and vision. After dinner that evening, you’ll return for a patriotic lighting ceremony before tucking into your luxury tent under the stars.

With just 16 miles of biking on day three, it’s the lowest mileage day with the most to see. After a morning visit to Crazy Horse Memorial, the world's largest mountain carving in progress, take a ranger-led tour of Wind Cave National Park. One of the longest and most complex caves in the world, this park is a maze of beautiful formations that are rarely seen elsewhere in the world.

Rest up for your final day of the trail, with 45 miles to complete between Custer and Edgemont. While we saved the most mileage for last, it’s an easy-going section that makes for a leisurely ride. After celebrating your completion of the trail with a champagne toast, settle into your seat aboard our comfortable private plane. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of legroom.

Do I need to be an experienced cyclist?
