  • Hike six miles into the Ansel Adams Wilderness, where you’ll make camp near alpine lakes surrounded by stunning mountain scenery

  • The entire trip is led by a professional MT Sobek guide, who will plan your adventures as well as cook meals and teach you all the skills you need
With elevations reaching above 13,000 feet, the Ansel Adams Wilderness spans over 200,000 acres of the Sierra Nevadas, a land which made the photographer famous. Just south of Yosemite National Park, spend four days exploring this hidden gem — hiking, camping and more amongst the stunning mountain landscape.

With the entire trip guided by the experts from MT Sobek, your first stop is a hike in the Mariposa Grove of Yosemite National Park. Home to more than 500 mature giant sequoias, this special site is the first place in our country’s history that the federal government set aside as a scenic natural area.

After a hike, best suited to the conditions and experience of your group, head to your hotel. Enjoy all of the old world charm combined with modern conveniences of the Chateau du Sureau while you can, before setting out on a two-night backpacking excursion the next morning. As part of your night of luxury, feast on a meal of the finest local, seasonal, and organic ingredients right from the nearby Central Valley farms, before resting up in one of the Chateau’s spacious suites.

Following an early breakfast at the hotel, you’ll hike about six miles through fir forests to the high subalpine lake basin where you’ll make camp. From here, you’ll explore further the next day to the pristine upper lakes basin or even to the summit of a nearby 10,000 foot-plus peak. Swimming and stargazing are also on the menu, along with the hearty meals prepared by your guide. With such a spectacular opportunity to get away from it all, it might be harder than you think to hike back.

FAQ

How far should I anticipate hiking on each day?
Each day it is estimated you’ll hike about 6 miles.  The elevation gain/loss will vary from day to day but won’t be more than 2,000 feet.  To prepare for the hikes, it is recommended you work on cardio/aerobic exercise ahead of the trip such as hiking, cycling or using a stairmaster machine.

Do I need to bring my own camping supplies?
No need to worry about the camping supplies, they are all taken care of.  Items that are included are backpacks, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, trekking poles, tents, bear spray, water filters, meals, and more.  If there’s something personal you’d prefer to bring along, such as a pillow or a headlamp, then feel free to bring those along as well.

What are the meals like in the wilderness?
All the meals in the wilderness can be tailored to member dietary preferences and restrictions.  Meals are considered backcountry gourmet and typically incorporate fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs.  Also included are snacks such as trail mixes and energy bars.

Will there be bathrooms or showers at the campsite?
Expect this to be a true camping experience.  While there won’t be any toilets at the campsite, guides will have the proper materials to make you comfortable while maintaining a leave no trace policy.  Should you want to shower or rinse off, there will be a solar shower at the campsite.
