The aptly nicknamed Big Island is the youngest—and largest—of the Hawaiian Islands, nearly twice the size of all of the others combined. Divided into six diverse regions, it’s home to lush tropical valleys, massive volcanoes, big cities, small towns, and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world—from white-sand, family-friendly spots to stunning black-sand beaches and rugged, remote coastline that’s perfect for adventuring. There’s even a unique green sand beach on the southernmost point of the island—one of only four beaches like it in the world. 

In addition to the incredible coastline, Big Island is also known for its impressive lava fields, chocolate and coffee farms, historic landmarks, and amazing waterfalls. Small seaside towns offer opportunities to slow down and get a taste of the island’s past, while the larger communities of Hilo and Kailua-Kona offer great shopping, dining, and entertainment options. There’s a lot to see and do here and many ways to enjoy the history, culture, and natural beauty of the island. 

Maui, the second largest of the Hawaiian Islands, is renowned for its world-famous beaches, incredible farm-to-table cuisine, and gorgeous landscapes. Nicknamed “The Valley Isle,” because of its unique geography (the central part of the island and most of its towns sit less than 200 feet above sea level, surrounded by towering mountain ranges), it’s a Pacific paradise, blanketed in lush, green tropical forests, set within a 120-mile ring of beautiful coastline.

Condé Nast Traveler readers have voted Maui one of the “Best Islands in the U.S.” for more than 20 years, and it’s easy to see why. Divided into five regions, each with its own personality, history, and attractions, there’s something here for just about every interest. 

The island of Kauai is the oldest and fourth largest of the Hawaiian isles. Often called the “Garden Island” because of its lush, green valleys, stunning coastline, and centuries-old tropical rainforests, it’s a place of incredible natural beauty and rich Hawaiian culture.

Here, you can enjoy time on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, play golf on world-class courses, dine on fresh Hawaiian seafood, and explore the many historic sites, small towns, and natural wonders the island is known for. On the West Side, you’ll find state parks with hiking trails and panoramic views. On the North Shore is the magnificent Nāpali Coast, a 17-mile stretch lined with massive 3,000-foot tall cliffs. The East Side, nicknamed the Royal Coconut Coast because of its many coconut palm trees, is home to a variety of outdoor attractions. And on the South Shore, you’ll find cultural landmarks and cozy beach towns interspersed with luxury, oceanside resorts and boutique hotels.
